M7Virtual have developed a cutting-edge turnkey solution for Live 360 Video Streaming. Utilising our years of experience in 360 immersive technologies, M7Virtual has been able to bring our expertise into some of the world’s largest studio feature film productions.
360 Live Video Streaming content, allows the viewer feel like they‘re at the heart of the action – as it happens. It can also reduce the number of people present on-set. This in turn reduces travel costs, health, and safety risks. And assists with the Covid-19 regulations.
During feature film production, the crew will often split into more than one unit. Using a 360 camera reduces the amount people needing to travel to different locations. However, the Director of Photograph (DoP) and production crew will still need full visibility of each location.
360 Live streaming allows you to monitor multiple sets and crews whilst remaining focused on the main film delivery. On a recent production the DoP, was able to monitor location scouting, main unit and secondary pre-lighting setups, without leaving his video village.
A self-contained unit, in a protective case that can be easily moved around, has been designed by M7. The case contains a network router and a battery which will supply power to both the router and the 360 camera. The film productions main cameras will then have this case placed nearby, without adding to cable congestion.
M7 provides a state of the art customised network system, guaranteeing the best signal strength for all connected devices enabling crews to continue filming whilst being in geographically separated locations. Our Live 360 Video Streaming system can be integrated into any Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN) – without the need for network or power cables.
In addition, it is common for investors and stakeholders to visit a set to monitor the production’s progress. Now, from anywhere in the world, these ‘visits’ can be made virtually.

Most large production houses rely on stringent streaming protocols. They ensure there are no breaches of internet security by third-party hacking systems. By using a local intranet stream (LAN) this keeps all communications ‘in house’.
Production crew can also view the set from anywhere in the world via the studio WAN. However, connections aren’t always secure. So, M7 has implemented the QTAKE video monitoring software.
QTAKE software is designed and used to log, capture, playback, edit and process video. It implements state of the art security protocols, already approved by most large production houses.
A great feature of QTAKE is the ability to stream over both a LAN and a WAN at the same time so pictures can be viewed both remotely and on set.
A 360 player is typically used to view a 360 stream. The viewer moves around the images using their hand or a mouse. There are times, however, when directors want to see the entire 360 image all at once (equirectangular). QTAKE is so powerful that it distributes both of these views simultaneously. This removes the need for second tablet.
With our tried and tested solution, M7 have worked with one of the largest production houses in the world, fulfilling all of their 360 Live Video Streaming requirements. With our knowledge and experience we provide a robust Live 360 system which can meet any film production needs.
